In this regard, the ISVV brings together stakeholders from Joint Research Units – managed under joint supervision with the public scientific and technical establishments (EPSTs) INRAE, CNRS, as well as Bordeaux Sciences Agro and Bordeaux INP – to work on multi- and interdisciplinary projects. All are affiliated with one or more research departments at the University of Bordeaux, whether in the field of environmental sciences (the SE department) or the humanities and social sciences (the CHANGES, ECOr, DROIT and TRANSFORMATIONS SOCIALES departments). Strong links also exist with researchers from research units at Bordeaux Montaigne University.
Overall, research at the ISVV centres on three major, interlinked and synergistic themes: the environment, distinctiveness/quality, and markets.
The range of methodological approaches and techniques used by researchers is at the cutting edge in numerous fields: agronomy, ecophysiology, microbiology, chemistry and biochemistry, process engineering, sensory analysis, cognitive psychology, cytology, epidemiology, ecology, molecular biology, quantitative economics, statistical analysis, etc.
