A Bordeaux initiative that is an integral part of the winegrowing ecosystem

Recognising that there are still many areas to be investigated (identifying quality markers, preserving the typicity of wines and their ageing potential against a backdrop of climate change and restrictions on the use of plant protection products), this group of players believes it is vital to keep the taste of wine at the heart of the industry's concerns. If Bordeaux wines are to remain leaders, fundamental research needs to be bolstered today, so that tomorrow's companies can seize on the results and translate them into innovations for the entire industry. The aim of the Chair is therefore to support the work of the Œnology research unit within the ISVV, which is not only designed to acquire knowledge but also to help provide practical solutions to the players in the wine industry. Post-doctoral work will be funded by the Chair from the beginning of 2018, and in subsequent years efforts will focus on funding a thesis and acquiring scientific equipment. Professor Denis Dubourdieu, founder and director of the ISVV from 2009 to 2016, has made a major contribution to linking the organoleptic component of wines with their composition. It is therefore only natural that ISVV should pay tribute to this leading figure in the world of wine by dedicating this Chair, the first university chair dedicated to oenology research, to him.
The Chair was spearheaded by Philippe Darriet, head of the Œnology research unit, with the support of the Inno'vin cluster and a number of sponsors.

The aim of the Chair is therefore to support the work of the ISVV's Oenology research unit, which is not only designed to acquire knowledge but also to help provide practical solutions for the wine industry. Post-doctoral work will be funded by the Chair from early 2018, and in subsequent years efforts will focus on funding a thesis and acquiring scientific equipment.
