The Ausonius Joint Research Unit (UMR 5607) is under the supervision of the CNRS, Bordeaux Montaigne University and the Ministry of Culture. It is based on the Pessac campus, on the premises of the Maison de l'Archéologie and the Archéopôle.
Dedicated to the study of spaces, societies and cultures from European Protohistory to the end of the Middle Ages, it very quickly brought together archaeologists, historians, art historians and Hellenistic and Latin philologists. Today, it is regarded as a benchmark laboratory in these disciplines, both in France and abroad.
